Junior Golf Programs

Par Program

The onus is on fun

Ages: 5 – 12

Ability levels: Beginners & Intermediates. As far as possible, groups are arranged according to skill levels.

Duration: Quarterly and on an on-going basis. 8 x 40 minute sessions per term, of which at least 2 take place on the course.

Program Content: All aspects of golf are coached, with emphasis on the child mainly experiencing it all as being fun, hereby fostering their interest in the game. The basics of all shots are coached (full swing, putting, chipping & pitching, bunker play), as well as the basics of good etiquette, which also aids in the child’s overall personal development. Fun & games are held!

The children are taken onto the golf course as often as possible. Holiday camps are presented as an extra enjoyment incentive and to introduce new juniors into the program. The youngsters are also encouraged to take part in fun competitions eg SA Kids Golf. Their progression is closely monitored, with clear and attainable progressive skill levels set for each child to achieve termly and annually.

Number of participants: Maximum of 8 per group, minimum of 4.

Times: Suitable weekday afternoons starting at 15h00 or 16h00.

Birdi Program

Fun and playing development

Ages: According to ability

Ability levels: Emphasis on intermediates but beginners are also welcome.

Duration: Quarterly and on an on-going basis with the option to enter the Eagle or High-Performance Program.

Program Content: Covers all aspects of golf, with emphasis starting to shift slightly toward sound technique and ability, hereby still nurturing their interest in the game. The basics of all shots are coached in slightly more detail (full swing, putting, chipping & pitching, bunker play), and good etiquette is also developed further.

The pupils are taken onto the golf course as often as possible. More exposure is given to the older pupils in terms of tournament participation, particularly those organized by the Boland Golf Union. Their progression is closely monitored, with clear and attainable progressive skill levels set for each child to achieve termly and annually.

Times: Suitable weekday afternoons between 15h00 and 17h00.

Number of participants: Individually or in pairs to maintain efficiency.

Eagle Program

Getting more serious

Ages: According to ability

Ability levels: Handicap of 15 or below

Duration: Monthly (February – November) with option to renew each year and/or move to the High-Performance Program. At least 4 sessions per month, playing & practice program included.

Program Content: While still making sure the fun remains, much more emphasis is now placed on the child’s development as a player and competitor in this program. Constant assessments are repeated to evaluate where weaknesses lie and what is to be done to address them, using the latest technology.

Experts from the fields of physical & mental conditioning can be made available for liaison. The children’s tournament schedule will be planned with them and evaluations will take place after each tournament.

Number of participants: Limited to the first 10 qualifying paid participants. Ideally done individually but can also be done in pairs.

Times: Suitable weekday afternoons from 15h00 as well as over alternate weekends.

High-Performance / Elite Program

Could your child become a champion golfer?

Ages: According to ability

Entrance requirements: 7 handicap or below. Short CV or interview is mandatory.

Duration: Monthly (February to November) with the option to renew every year. The pupils will see their coach at least three days per week and other instructors at least once per week and have a set minimum standard of practice and tournament schedules set out for them.

Program Content: This is a high-performance program. Commitment levels must be high. The students are provided with the latest technology available, as well as the best sport science experts available for them to reach their potentials.

Number of participants: Limited to first 6 qualifying paid participants.
